At the conclusion of the Gran Premio bwin.com de España, after Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa had scored a dominant victory in front of a 130,000-plus Jerez crowd to lead the World Championship after two rounds, the Spanish rider’s manager Alberto Puig praised his charge as he spoke to motogp.com.
Sunday’s MotoGP race saw Pedrosa take over the lead fromholeshot man and Honda colleague Nicky Hayden at turn two and stay out front for the rest of the 27 lap contest.
Pedrosa’s pace had him almost four seconds ahead at half race distance on his Honda RC212V having smashed the fastest laprecord en route, and there was no stopping him from there as he cruised home to delight the masses of Spanish supporters looking on.
Reacting to Pedrosa’s fifth premier-class victory and his second 800cc win on Spanish soil, Puig said, `It was a really good race and a very good performance from Dani. It was not easy because the Yamahas had a very good pace, but he managed to do it. He had a really good start and I think it was a key point that in the early laps he was really strong.´
`Once he got a small gap he managed to keep increasing it tenth (of a second) by tenth and he was able to maintain the advantage. The tyres were working well, he performed well and the bike was really strong. We are very, very happy to win here in Jerez in a home Grand Prix, for Dani especially and for all of us who have been supporting him this weekend.´
