Asian GT Challenge Dropped Due To Overcrowded Schedule
17 June 2008, By Sepang International Circuit
The Asian GT Challenge, which features top class supercar actions, has been forced to be dropped from the 2008 Super GT International Series Malaysia race schedule due to time constraint. “After re-assessing the race schedule and upon consultation with promoters of the Asian GT Challenge series, it had been agreed for the event to be excluded from this year’s race programme,” says Azhar Ghazali, the Press Officer of Sepang International Circuit. In a statement issued today, Azhar said the decision was also made to prevent the event from finishing too late in the evening apart from the consideration on the possibility of late evening showers during the three days. “It’s unfortunate, but there is still four more top class racing series that fans can enjoy apart from the main Super GT event,” he said, adding that the support races are the new Aston Martin Asia Cup, the Asian Supercar Challenge and the single seater formula series - the Asian Formula Renault Challenge and the Formula V6 Asia. Sepang hosts Round 4 of a nine-leg 2008 Super GT International Series, which features world class racing drivers including ex Formula One stars; competing in stylish fully-modified sports cars produced by the world’s top automakers. Joining the drivers will be some 100 GT Queens from Japan, representing the competing teams and their sponsors. “With four top class support races, the 2008 race remains to be the biggest ever Super GT race to be hosted by Sepang,” said Azhar, adding that racing fans can be guaranteed a time of their life when coming to the event. While entry for Friday is free, tickets for entry on both days Saturday and Sunday are priced at RM80 for the K1 Grandstand and RM150 for the Main Grandstand. Pit-walkabout passes and circuit safari passes are sold at RM100 each. Tickets can be purchased at the circuit and the SIC office at KL Sentral Kuala Lumpur. They can also be purchased by calling TICKET HOTLINE at 03-87782222 or via internet at www.malaysiangp.com.my.
