Firhat To Shine In Debut

16 May 2009, By Sepang International Circuit

SEASONED Supersixteen competitor Lai Wee Sing may have grabbed the pole position for Round 2 race at the Sepang International Circuit tomorrow, but it was Firhat Mokhzani who got the grid gossiping.

Firhat, who is Meritus’ team manager, one of Asia’s most successful racing team, was the second quickest qualifier despite competing in for the first time in the series.

“I am neither happy nor am I sad but I am looking forward to tomorrow’s race,” said Firhat who clocked 1:16.285s, 0.536s behind Wee Sing.

Racing for Loon Power team, Firhat believes the Supersixteen category is among the most competitive racing series in the country.

With 21 cars on the grid and a number of the top pack driver good for podium finishes, Firhat however has not set a target for the race tomorrow.

“It will be interesting to see what happens as I am sure the seasoned racers will be revealing all the tricks to fight for the win,” said Firhat.

Coming in third was Mohd Faizal Mohd Hassim with a time of 1:16.715s.

Round 1 winner Wong Yew Choong or Boy Wong to many, could only managed to clock the fourth fastest time despite joining back his team, Type R.

Meanwhile, Mok Weng Sun of Team Porsche Club Singapore will be the pole sitter for tomorrow’s Supercars race.

Weng Sun recorded the best lap of 1:06.251s which was 0.764s faster than Sri Lankan Dilantha Malagamuwa of Dilango Racing.

Malaysian Wira Dani Daim of Fugazi Racing took the third spot with a time of 1:07.137s.
