Honda Malaysia Aims For First In Class In The 10th Edition of MME

06 July 2009, By Sepang International Circuits

As the Merdeka Millennium Endurance (MME) race enters its tenth year, Honda Malaysia Racing Team is set on to catch the first overall title again at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC).

This year’s HMRT consists of 3 returning drivers; Eddy Lew, Aaron Lim and Rueben Wong in a Civic Type-R.

All three drivers have previously driven for HMRT in MME for a few years, last year the team finished 6th in class and 18th overall completing 267 laps in the 12 hour endurance race, 41 laps behind the race winner.

‘We were unsuccessful to repeat previous year’s (2007) winning as first in class as we had some problems with the brake hose,” said Eddy Lew.

“We had to bring the car in for repairs and it took awhile before we could continue racing but that was enough to set us back for that year,” he added.

“The preparation this year is a lot better as to compare to last year so if there are no more problems this time we might get back our first in class title again and maybe even the overall title as well.”

“Except for some slight alignment issues we are well prepared and on schedule for the race,” explained Eddy at the testing.

According to Rueben Wong, “the car has been updated overall, from the engine to transmission, chassis and suspension to braking.  Anything that we find inadequate and have room to improve from last year’s experience have been done.”

He added that although the car is faster and will surely give the class A2 teams a fight but it will be a tough fight for the overall title.

“The class O cars are a lot more powerful and with more available space on the grip this year there will be more cars of that class we have to battle with.”

The race will be flagged 11.30 on Saturday 8 of August. The teams will have to complete as many laps as possible on the 5.543km circuit in 12 hours.

Entrance is free for all, for paddock entrance is RM100, parking for cars is RM5 and RM2 for bike and finally RM20 for buses.
