Sepang To Host Remaining Rounds of Malaysian Motocross Championship

16 July 2008, By Sepang International Circuit

All remaining rounds of the SIC-AAM Malaysian Motocross Championship 2008 has been shifted to Sepang Motocross Circuit including the upcoming Round 4 which is scheduled this weekend in Segamat, Johor.

“The decision to have all the rounds here in Sepang is for proper administration of the event, for better running of the races and to provide the riders with the best motocross track for competition,” says SIC Press Officer Azhar Ghazali.

“We are currently upgrading the Sepang Motocross Track further for the races and it would be ready for an open free practice session for the riders on Friday,” Azhar said, adding that there would not be any charges to test out the track on Friday.

Kicked off at Sepang Motocross Circuit in April, the event had traveled to Gopeng in May for Round 2 and to a newly-built motocross track at Higway Autocity in Prai last month for Round 3. Round 4 was scheduled to be held in Segamat next weekend.

In its original calendar, the event was scheduled to run at the Modenas Motocross Track in Gurun, at Jalan Kebun Motocross Circuit in Shah Alam, in Ulu Penggeli, Kluang as well as a round in the town of Grik, Perak.

“We would like to thank all the track owners and race organizers for their support. We hope that they would continue to organize races there and support our efforts in developing motocross in the country.

“We know for a fact that there are plenty of talents out there. But, they simply could not show off their skills and develop further because the opportunities to race are too limited. The sports need more races and more competitions and of course, more sponsors to grow,” he added.

After three rounds, the expert class is currently led by New Zealander Larry Stuart Blair with Hazlanshah Mohd Noor is topping the novice class. M. Chandran heads  the veteran category while Ahmad Nasaie Najmi leads the Trail Bike Championship.
