Sepang New Motocross Circuit Gets AAM Approval

17 July 2008, By Sepang International Circuit

An all-new refurbished Sepang Motocross Circuit awaits competitors at the SIC-AAM Malaysian Motocross Championship 2008 this weekend after the 978-meter track was approved by the sports governing body, Automobile Association of Malaysia (AAM).

“We are happy to announce that AAM has approved the new track yesterday and we are all ready for action this weekend. In fact, riders can even do their free practice tomorrow,” says Kalaiwani Munnusamy, SIC’s project manager for the event.

Built over the old track, Kalaiwani said the construction involved a massive ploughing of the land; reconstruction of certain jumps and clearing of stones and debris over the area to provide an exciting and enjoyable track for the competitors.

“It remains challenging; but I can guarantee that it’s going to be fun and enjoyable for the riders competing around this new track,” said Kalaiwani, adding that the track features 15 challenging turns, 11 jumps, 9 double-jumps, 2 triple-jumps and 1 table-top.

SIC had decided to re-construct the track in line with its decision to organize all the remaining four rounds of the national championship in Sepang for proper administration of the event and for better running of the races.

In its original calendar, the event was scheduled to run at the Modenas Motocross Track in Gurun, at Jalan Kebun Motocross Circuit in Shah Alam, in Ulu Penggeli, Kluang as well as a round in the town of Grik, Perak.

After three rounds, the expert class is currently led by New Zealander Larry Stuart Blair with Hazlanshah Mohd Noor is topping the novice class. M. Chandran heads  the veteran category while Ahmad Nasaie Najmi leads the Trail Bike Championship.
