Wee Sing's Sweet Double Supersixteen

17 May 2009, By Sepang International Circuit

The Supersixteen category took centre stage in Round 2 of the Malaysian Super Series at the Sepang International Circuit today.

Filled with drama, swift overtaking and powerful machines, Johor born Lai Wee Sing however managed to win both the races.

In Race 1, Wee Sing took the chequered flag in 19:26.196s with Firhat Mokhzani coming in second just 0.603s behind.

S. Ramesh timed in at 19:37.280s to take the final podium spot.

It was almost the similar situation in Race 2 as Wee Sing won the race in 19:22.909s.

However, Firhat, who is the single seater racing team Meritus manager, gave a strong fight despite debuting in the class this weekend.

"It was a tough race and I had to use almost every trick in the book to hold him back," said Wee Sing.

Firhat eventually crossed the finish line in 19:23.876s just 0.967s behind Wee Sing.

Moo Wai Leong who finished sixth in Race 1 however managed to get on the podium with his third place display in Race 2.

In the Supercars category Singaporean Mok Weng Sun, Sri Lankan Dilantha Malagamuwa and Malaysian Wira Dani Daim took the honours in the respective order for both races.

"It was a tough race but I would like to thank my team for the double success," said Weng Sun who drives for the Porsche Club Singapore.

"I hope to carry this momentum into the next round," he added.

The next round will be held on July 24-26.
