Yasuhiro Kuhara Holds On To His Championship Lead

04 October 2009, By Sepang International Circuit

Ahmad Zamani Bahrudin wins the fourth round of the Malaysian Super Series (MSS) at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) in the Superbike race.

Zamani finished second in race 1 and first in race 2 which puts him in first place overall ahead of Yasuhiro Kuhara who finished race 1 in first place but only managed third on the second race. In third place was Abd Rahim Muhammad Sidek.

“With only half of the track for racing we don’t have much room to race as compared to the whole circuit with 14 corners,” said Ahmad Zamani Bahrudin superbike class winner.

“With Kuhara now used to the circuit, it’s getting hard to fend him off but I think I have a good chance to hold him back at the next round as the race will be a full track race.”

However Kuhara is still leading the Championship with a total of 182 points, 31 points ahead of Zamani with 151 points and Rahim in third place with 113 points.

“It’s going to be a close call but I’m not going to give up till the last race,” Zamani said.

For the Supersport championship (600cc) Azlan Shah has sealed the deal when he finished both races in first place.

With 36 riders on the list, the Bikez 150 race was eventually dominated by four riders, Muhammad Syafiq Omar Ali, Ahmad Azhar Hamid, Fairuz Murad and Mohd Tarmizi Abd Naser.

The four of them went on to battle for the first place and kept changing position throughout the whole two 10 lap races.

However a quarter of the lineup did not manage to finish the races due to mechanical problem with their bikes, most probably from the heat.

The next and last round of the MSS bike race will be in conjunction the Shell Advance Motorcycle Grand Prix at the end of this month on the 23rd to the 25 of October.

Tickets are going as low as RM30 to watch the race live with lots of prizes to give away. Apart from our local riders in the MSS, come and also cheer our very own Malaysian Wildcard rider racing against international bike riders.
