Inspiring "Brush Stroke" design themed with red and black
On January 11th, Nissan Motor and NISMO (Nissan Motorsports International) unveiled the new color design of NISSAN GT-R race car that will compete in 2008 SUPER GT GT500 class at the Nissan booth in "Tokyo Auto Salon with NAPAC."
With a crowd of media and spectators surrounding the venue, NISMO SUEPR GT Team Director Yoshitaka Iijima and the Nissan Design Department Associate Chief Designer Tsutomu Matsuo appeared on the stage to literally unveil the new GT-R together.
Mr. Matsuo who designed the new color design of NISMO GT-R explained the idea behind, "Since it was the comeback for GT-R, it could have been a totally new design. But after hearing opinions of NISMO Fan Club and other people involved, I understood that the 'Brush Stroke' design had become a staple design of the team since 2003 that fans cheer for the team with NISMO flag with the 'Brush Stroke' design in their hands. It's just in the heart of everybody. So, we had decided to continue with the 'Brush Stroke' and used red, which is Nissan's corporate color, and black, that signifies GT-R's high-performance, as the basic colors of the design."
Team Director Iijima shared his story on the request he made for the design from engineer's point of view, "We requested the rooftop to be reflective. The cockpit inside of the car will get tremendously hot in summer races like the one in Sepang (Malaysia). But with a reflective rooftop reflecting sunlight, inside temperature can be brought down compared with the conventional rooftop. You can even touch the roof after the car went for a long lap, it doesn't get hot."
"There is a saying in racing, 'Fast car is cool looking.' Since we are giving a cool looking design, it is now our turn to make GT-R a fast car. We haven't been successful in securing title for last 2 years. But we will definitely win the series this year" said Team Director Iijima promising the fans of GT-R and Nissan to conquer the 2008 SUPER GT.
