The Chairman of A1GP Australia Pty Ltd Mr Alan H Evans released the following statement a few hours ago:

“The Directors and Officers of A1GP Australia Pty Ltd have been endeavouring over the last several weeks to obtain clarification on the status of A1GP from A1 Holdings the international company which is the commercial rights holder of the A1GP series and also the company which has control of the A1GP Race Cars and the A1GP teams.

A1 Team Malaysia enjoyed a strong showing in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsportsixth round which took place in Portugal this weekend. Fairuz Fauzy representedhis nation and drove well to finish in fourth place in the Feature race havingtaken eighth in the Sprint race this morning.

The start of the sprint race produced early excitement with NewZealand and Lebanon tangling followed by Germany and Lebanon clashing. Malaysiacarefully avoided these two incidents and had made up ground to seventh place.The accidents brought out the safety car.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 05 March 2009 Sepang International Circuit has always been at the top or close to the top in the list of driver’s favourite tracks. After A1GP’s first visit to Kyalami the Malaysian circuit might have some competition in the popularity stakes. A1 Team Malaysia recently raced for the first time at the historic Kyalami circuit in Johannesburg, South Africa. The team’s drivers, Fairuz Fauzy and Aaron Lim, were two of many drivers to be thrilled by the track and the experience. Both agreed it came a close second to the Malaysian circuit in their list of ‘top ten’ tracks.

At today's A1GP race at Sepang in Malaysia, Fauzy had a storming start to the Feature race keeping his fourth place start and pushing hard for position but a clash between India and Switzerland brought out the safety car and the Malaysia car had to hold position. When racing resumed Fauzy was straight on to the PowerBoost and out braked the third placed car of Lebanon to claim third place.

Fauzy explains bizarre pit stop

Fairuz Fauzy lost a potential podium place on home soil in the Feature race in Sepang today.

The 26-year-old had been running in a strong third until a bizarre incident on the 17th lap, when he heard a message on the radio to come into pits by what he thought was his team. When he got there, he was sent straight back out on track by his confused team. It transpired that this was from another team and only heard by Fauzy. The organisers are investigating exactly how this could have happened.

A1 Team Switzerland’s perfect pole position record at Sepang was broken today.
Driver Neel Jani had qualified on the top spot in all five consecutive attempts at the Malaysia circuit – until qualifying for the Feature race occurred this afternoon.

Having earlier secured his now customary pole position in Sprint race qualifying, Jani stunned the paddock by only securing 16th place on the grid for the Feature.
